Policy Issues
Texas Needs
- A competitive and robust economy that stimulates saving, financial stability, entrepreneurial investments, and new jobs.
- A healthy state budget that eliminates wasteful spending while efficiently addressing the needs of citizens.
- A quality and reliable infrastructure for transportation, energy and water.
- An excellent and innovative public and higher education sysytem that prepares our students to compete in the 21st century global economy.
- Access to affordable, quality healthcare that meets the needs of individuals and is driven by the free market.
Energy
Texas must do its part to reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign energy. We need to eliminate unnecessary barriers to developing new and existing oil and gas reserves. Conservation should play a critical role, along with alternative energy sources such as wind, solar, nuclear and biomass.
Water
Texas is one of the fastest growing states in the nation and fundamental to our ability to support this growth is a diverse, long-term water supply. Regions throughout the state are experiencing different rates of growth and have difference water sources at their immediate disposal. Our response to the increased demands for water should be two-fold. We must enhance conservation plans along with strategies to develop new and diverse water sources.
Transportation
Texans need quality roads and infrastructure to get goods to market and make Texas an interconnected place that’s friendly for business and families. We are a big state and we must make sure that dependable, safe roads are available.
Education
The Texas Conservative Roundtable believes that an excellent and innovative public education for our students that prepares them for the global challenges of the 21st century is vital to the success of our state. We must be diligent in cultivating and implementing our best practices in the classrooms, further increasing our high school and college graduations, enhancing financial aid tools and making education our highest priority as we strive to compete in a knowledge-based, economy.
We have much to be proud of in Texas. We have a strong reputation for accountability, world-class institutions of higher education and community college systems that are considered some of the best values in the nation.
Healthcare
The Texas Conservative Roundtable believes in access to an affordable, quality healthcare environment that meets the needs of individuals.
Providing compassionate care to our most vulnerable citizens and helping Texans to develop healthier habits is critical to managing a young, surging population along with the aging baby boomers. Practical solutions can increase the ranks of physicians, para-professionals, nurses and other caregivers.
We must continue to improve efficiencies in the healthcare industry and help more Texans attain health care coverage.
